Steve Herington (Hereford Couriers)
BOB COLE THE RUNNER the strange life of a forgotten champion by Steve Herington (£6.00)
Bob Cole was a local man still remembered by older people in the area for his eccentric character and athletic ability which took him right to the top. He was a regular at the Peterchurch Show and other local events but also triumphed in the 1920's on the biggest stage, becoming World Champion at 10 miles and the Marathon as well as winning gold at the prestigious New Year Powderhall Carnival in Edinburgh. In this lavishly illustrated book, Steve Herington has pieced together, from talking to local people and researching contemporary newspaper reports, the extraordinary story of the man and his achievements, setting them in their historical context.
Steve will have copies available at various races through the season, including the first Summer League race at Abbey Dore on 1st June.
He will also be talking about the book with Matthew Engel at the Hay Festival on Thursday 26th May at 5.30 p.m.

PRESTEIGNE CROSS COUNTRY
07th February 2016
As the forestry is open to the public we kindly request runners ‘car share’ as much as possible and don’t park in the forestry car park (If the NRW who maintain the forestry get too many complaints regarding the race, we may not be able to hold the race in the future) there is plenty of space for parking on the approach road and by the leisure Centre.
The ladies race will start @ 10:45 from the forestry car park and follow the same route as last year (approximately 4.25 miles).
The men’s race will start @ 11:00 from the forestry car park, but due to forestry work, the route will follow the course last used in 2014 (approximately 7.25 miles).
Both routes have a good mix of forestry, tracks, climbs, descents, mud (not as much as Monkall Farm) and water features (especially for Hereford Couriers & Maldwyn Harriers).
As this is a working forest, forestry work may cause us to change the routes at short notice.
Shower facilities are available at the leisure Centre (clean shoes please) but they may charge for this.
We are planning a recce of the men’s route on Sunday the 31/01/2016, if any members from any club (male or female) are interested please let me know by Thursday the 28/01/2016.
The post-race refreshments & presentation will be held at the Royal British Legion Club (clean shoes & clothing please) from 12:30pm, there is plenty of parking available in the car park (£1.30 up to 2 hours) and on the street (free).
More detail of the courses and the location of the Royal British Legion Club can be found by clicking the link on the ‘Presteigne XC’ event on the calendar.

Borth Beach 10K (02/08/2015)
Only three Pacers (Steve, Piotr & Carol) turned out for this seemingly easy 10k run on the beach from Borth to Ynyslas & back on a sunny but breezy Sunday afternoon. With an absence of hills a PB was expected but running 3 miles into a constant headwind on the return leg soon dispelled any chances of that.
Clun Carnival Canter (2015)
With near perfect conditions all down to Darran the race organiser (no doubt), 10 Presteigne Pacers set of on this challenging 5.25ish mile hilly race with a mix of road, fields forestry trails & more hills.
Starting and finishing next to the White Horse pub, a good time was had by all runners & spectators.
Thank you to Darran and the Clun Carnival organiser for a great race, we look forward to next years race.
Magic Roundabout (07/06/2015)
A great turnout from the Pacers at this year’s Magic Roundabout, fielding 12 runners and 2 dogs.
The weather was hot and breezy which showed on the red face at the club meeting that evening, most in their new copper (orange) t-shirts (very popular).
Thank you to the Hay Hotfooters for putting on another (very busy) great race.
Club Handicap (2015)
Saturday saw 7 Pacrers taking part in this year’s race, most finished within 30 second of their predicted times and one first timer got lost.
Well done to all the Pacers who took part in this very challenging 8 (nearer 9) mile race in very warm conditions. Results can be found on the Results page.
Next meeting (07/06/2015)
Meal choice and money for the Club Annual meal to be handed in.
Plans for the 2 Rivers to be discussed.
Presteigne Pacers would like to offer their support and condolences to the family of former club member Roy Taylor, who’s funeral will be held this Saturday.
Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
The club handicap has been cancelled this Saturday due to the loss of former club member Roy Taylor.
Norton Fun Ride (mini Man vs Horse)
If you aren’t doing anything this bank holiday Monday (4th May), consider the Norton Fun Ride.
Choose from 6 mile or 12 mile routes both partially marked/marshalled with a water station halfway. Starting at Pools Farm Norton, from 10:00am – 12:00pm where drinks, chips & burgers will be available to buy in aid of St Andrew’s Church.
Entry for runners is free this year, but we will want your feedback on the suitability of the course for future events.
Shobdon Wood 6
The results are now in. Congratulation to all the Pacers that took part especially Rita & Carrol who both finished 1st in their age category. Thanks to Croft for another great race.

Muddy Woody 6 (mud, mud, mud & some more mud)
Well it was muddy & it was in a wood, the only thing missing from the name of this race is two river crossings and several hills.
Well done to the Wye Valley Runners for putting on another great race.
I actually don’t know if I got dirtier from the race or from pushing one of Monross Trailblazers car out of a bog after the race?
Still the technical t-shirt more than makes up for it!
Well done to Steve Gary, Rita & Sahrah who all did well in this challenging race.
See you all at the Hatterall Hammer.

Shobdon Wood 6:
Race 4 in the club championship click here to download an entry form
The ladies race will start at 10:45!
As the mens course has been shortened it will mean more runners will be finishing in a short period of time, making it hard for the time keepers. To alleviate this it has been decided by Mike to start the ladies race 15 minutes before the mens race.
Buff Winter Trail Marathon Wales
Well done to the three Pacers who ran at the weekend. Gary (Lewis) was first home in 02:07:06 (139th), Rita second in 02:19:23 (194th) and not far behind Sahrah in 02:43:17 (286th).
For the full results: click here
Today 9 Pacer & 2 Crofters ran a recce on the new Presteigne XC (mens) route. The new course is shorter than in previous years at only 6.3miles but still challenging (we have added a water feature to keep our friends at Hereford Couriers happy)!
The route can be viewed by clicking the link found under the event, on the Pacers Calendar page.
As for today’s recce one Pacer dropped out after half a mile due to a previous injury, the remaining 10 runners all agreed it is a tough course and for a change, Croft didn’t feature in the first five runner home.
On race day NO parking at the start only for officials, and we request runners park at the leisure centre. Toilet and shower facilities are available at the leisure centre but they will charge £1.50 for the use of shower.
The prize presentation will take place at the Royal British Legion afterwards (clean shoes only please), (again the location can be found by clicking the link under the event on the Pacers Calendar)
See you all on Sunday 1st February.
The BBMC is the 6th race in the club championship, however as results are not published only entry points will be awarded (as some club members have already entered).
Entry for the BIG BLACK MOUNTAINS CHALLENGE is now open on-line. Click here
No May Hill Massacre in 2015
With regret we have to announce that we won't be holding the May Hill Massacre in 2015. A combination of changes in car parking access and personal travel plans mean that we can't give it the attention it deserves. Apologies. Black Sheep Sports.
Gareth & Bryan Lloyd did well in the Skirrid Fell race on Sat 20/12/2014, coming home in 00:38:46 (46th) and 00:45:42 (99th) in a tough race with a strong field.
